Bump

Hey folks
It’s been a long while since I sat down with all of you to discuss what’s going on around here.
So I think I need to fix that problem.

Things I need to acknowledge:
I have not been around nearly as much as I used to be
I’ve had a new job for six months.
We got new management about a month ago who seem to think that Night Shift is synonymous for “robots that don’t need to do anything other than work”
I have had very little time to even look at fluffy content.
All I seem to do these days is handle the emergencies

“We were down for a week”
Yep. You’re right. I dropped the ball, and we had yet another extended failure.
I took some time to look into the possibilities of moving our Discourse instance to other hosting platforms.
Got a few quotes
Learned a bit more about the headache that comes from switching webhosts
aaaand I decided to invest in our current server to make it more resilient.

“Why did we have the down-time after Ryou fixed our Discourse instance?”
The normally stable power grid where I live has been fluctuating far more than it had in past years.
Our website and it’s drives are were connected directly to the power grid.
And now they are not.
About three weeks ago we (our community) bought a $700 Uninterruptable Power Supply to protect us from the power fluctuations I mentioned, and we bought enough replacement hard drives that we were able to get past this morning’s outage pretty quickly.
We were down for about two hours, but we are back up and fully functional now.

I’m working on being more prepared for this hardware crash shit…than I used to be.

If you’ve got ire, or complaints, there’s honestly no better place to throw it than at me.

Tell me what’s on your mind, FluffyCommunity

when you are not logged into your account on the main page you still see this warning
logout
i have seen some people on reddit thinking the site is still dead, or not to post, because they don’t know the warning is obsolete now

Other than that, thanks for going through the trouble of giving us hours of free entertainment

Maybe do another fundraiser to purchase site badges someday?

Trying not to do any more fundraisers.
That was a massive headache
But I did contact a couple of people specifically because they had said they would help
They can out themselves here, but I won’t

This basically
We just appreciate the space to share our works

Honestly, that’s what I want this place to be.
A place where we can share some odd creations
enjoy a semi-shared universe
and see what all was done in the past

It’s part museum, and part sandbox.

Should I create some sort of banner that says
FOR THE LOVE OF ANY GOD YOU HAPPEN TO BELIEVE IN
DO NOT EVER USE YOUR PRIMARY USERNAME WHEN YOU JOIN THIS COMMUNITY
?

I’m getting really goddamn tired of people telling me to delete their accounts.

Yes.

Especially when they make a fuss about it.

Subject: Hey Guys, I’m leaving!

Content: vague vague vague delete my shit

Well you could have helped us by stating what you had a problem with, but no, rather than a graceful exit we get to have a day long back-and-forth that I honestly don’t have time to handle, but I’m lothe to hand off to anyone on my team.

Gahddamn

If you can look at the content in the community, and decide to join with your main internet handle, then that should be on you.

It really has been happening a lot recently

Trust yourself and do your job the way you know you’re supposed to, and just let everything your jerkweed management says slide off you unless they tell you to do your job wrong. Either way, don’t stress if you can help it.

I agree, it should be.
But I’m doing my best to be kind to everybody
and let them duck out when they feel weird about being here.

Should put a warning sign when making an account.

That’s honestly a lot more kindness than I think I would be able to show.

You do a lot for the community, even helping people to leave it is a service in itself. I would like to say thank you for all the work you’ve done to give us this space.

That’s something I’d have to do across FC, Reddit, and Facebook.
Not to mention other places.

Honestly, this place shouldn’t have any moderators besides those that filter out crap or filter in “controversial” shit.

Personally, I have always thought that fluffies are a controversial subject.

Regardless of how one writes, the subject is inherently obscene. Bizzare horse creatures that have no authority.

You can do anything with them.

Good or bad.
Humane or inhumane.
Decent or indecent.

It’s up to you.

And that is the absolute beauty of the medium.

Fluffies are like clay. You can do what ever you want with them.

If you are a writer: use fluffies as a way of exploring genres you have never written before.

If you are an artist: use fluffies as a way of exploring new styles that frighten you.

Ultimately, these freaky horse creatures are meant to be a thing that allows one to break away from their comfort zones.
I don’t think that was originally intended: but this is where we are.

Don’t fight it. Embrace it.

Because no one here is going to get a book, or gallery, or anything deal off of these mutant freaks.

But the lessons you pick up, the constructive criticism you receive, the ideas you formulate; those are the things that matter in this place.

That and the friends you make.
